Grade 10 math, age 15 to 16

In Grade 10, most students take Geometry or a second integrated mathematics course, centering on congruence, similarity, transformations, and geometric proofs. They apply right triangle trigonometry, coordinate geometry, and the Pythagorean theorem to solve spatial problems. Algebraic concepts, including quadratic equations and area/volume calculations, are frequently applied in geometric settings.

  • Represent and compare rigid transformations in the plane such as rotations, reflections, and translations.
  • Prove and apply geometric theorems about lines and angles, including vertical angles and parallel lines cut by a transversal.
  • Apply the Pythagorean theorem and trigonometric ratios to solve right triangles in applied contexts.
  • Give an informal argument for formulas and calculate circumference and area of circles.
  • Solve quadratic equations arising from geometric contexts and coordinate geometry problems.
  • Prove slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines and use them to solve geometric problems.
  • Describe events as subsets of a sample space using characteristics of the outcomes and calculate basic probabilities.
