What this covers
Line Graphs is taught in Year 7 (age 11 to 12, KS3) as a main teaching focus. It sits in the Statistics strand.
Worked example
A line graph shows the temperature was 12°C at 10:00 and 19°C at 14:00. What was the temperature increase between these times
- Find the value at 10:00: 12°C.
- Find the value at 14:00: 19°C.
- Calculate the difference: 19 - 12 = 7°C.
Answer: 7
Difficulty scale
The sheet generator offers five difficulty settings for this topic.
- Reading points plotted directly on gridlines with integer steps
- Reading values between marked gridlines on simple axes
- Finding differences or totals across two distinct points in time
- Interpolating values along a segment and interpreting flat lines
- Comparing two lines on a single graph to find differences or trends
Common mistakes
- Assuming the graph starts at zero when a broken axis or offset baseline is used
- Confusing the steepness of a segment with the absolute value rather than rate of change
