Year 3 maths, age 8 to 9

In Year 3 under the Australian Curriculum, pupils extend place value understanding to numbers up to at least 10,000 and develop mental and written strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They explore unit fractions, investigate geometric properties of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects, and measure everyday attributes like length, mass, capacity, and time. Pupils also collect, represent, and interpret data using tally marks, tables, and simple column graphs.
